On Tuesday, August 29, 2017, UMUC Career Services welcomed several officers from the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to the UMUC Academic Center in Largo, MD. These officers represented departments from across the Agency and were recruiting for a wide variety of positions. The day began with a presentation delivered by CIA representatives sharing a variety of tips about the application process and what it is like to work at the Agency. Following the presentation, attendees had the opportunity to engage in one-on-one networking with the recruiters.

As a career advising specialist at University of Maryland University College (UMUC), I have the pleasure of working with students and alumni at various stages of their career. I provide coaching on a variety of career development topics, and interview preparation is certainly one of the popular ones.
On Monday, July 10, 2017, UMUC’s President Javier Miyares signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to create a collaborative partnership between the VA’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion and UMUC’s Career Services Office. The purpose of the MOU is to establish a robust collaborative working partnership in order to coordinate and implement outreach to UMUC’s diverse student population for employment and educational opportunities within the VA.
UMUC’s Career Services and Alumni Relations team recently hosted more than 150 attendees for a Recruiter Session featuring ICF International, Library of Congress, Broadsoft, and the Department of Energy and Environment at the UMUC Academic Center in Largo and online. Through the event, students and alumni learned more about each organization and connected directly with recruiters and program managers from various career industries including Business Administration, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, and Emergency Management.
