UMUC’s Career Services and Alumni Relations team recently hosted more than 150 attendees for a Recruiter Session featuring ICF International, Library of Congress, Broadsoft, and the Department of Energy and Environment at the UMUC Academic Center in Largo and online. UMUC 2017 Spring Career Fair Recap

UMUC’s Career Services team recently hosted more than 1,200 attendees for its in-person career fair on March 9 and its virtual career fair on March 14. Each event provided students, alumni, and employers the appropriate platform to connect based on their needs.

The in-person career fair took place at the College Park Marriott in Adelphi, Maryland and included 49 employers. More than 600 UMUC students and alumni attended and connected face-to-face with recruiters. Among the companies in attendance were General Dynamics Mission Systems, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield, GEICO, KPMG, CACI, and U.S. Secret Service. Recruiters shared a variety of career opportunities including those in cybersecurity, IT, healthcare administration, finance and accounting, and more. Many recruiters offered business cards and contact information to allow attendees to follow up directly.

UMUC’s Career Services team also hosted a virtual career fair, which had 54 employers and more than 600 attendees. Attendees chatted virtually with featured employers including Deloitte, M&T Bank, UPS, Lunarline, and CSRA.  Recruiters had the opportunity to select resumes from the event and initiate conversations with students and alumni based on their qualifications. Some recruiters identified strong candidates from the event by sorting through resumes and, as a result, scheduled interviews.

Norman Workman, Senior Technical Recruiter for IntelliDyne, shared that he scheduled interviews immediately following the event.

“We hope to be able to schedule a few more UMUC alumni and students we met with at the career fair for interviews as suitable positions are opened,” Workman said. “We will definitely be focused on UMUC students for future opportunities, especially those that require Network & Cyber Security education and experience.”

Mareena Shipp, HR Director for GCubed Technology, attended both the in-person and online fair.

“I have attended more career fairs than I can count,” Shipp said. “I can honestly say, I was very impressed with the caliber of students enrolled in UMUC. I look forward to working more with UMUC in the future.”

UMUC’s Career Services team will continue to track success from the in-person and online event, and will work to connect more students and alumni with employers that have opportunities that match their skillsets.

Spring is just around the corner, which means it is Career Fair season for recruiters! Career fairs are phenomenal networking opportunities, and they are easily the best place to look if you’re seeking an internship, full-time, part time or temporary job opportunity by learning more about a wide variety of employers. December Virtual Recruiter Session Featuring BAE Sysytems, Blue Sky Innovative Solutions, and AT&T

UMUC’s Career Services and Alumni Relations team hosted a Virtual Recruiter Session on December 13th, 2016. More than 130 UMUC alumni and students attended.
