University of Maryland University College’s (UMUC) Office of Career Services recently hosted Government Week 2016, which offered UMUC students and alumni a wide range of online and on-site events dedicated to assisting them with their government job search. Webinar: Interviews and Security Clearances
Applying for a federal position is just the beginning of the government job search. To kick off Government Week 2016, this webinar, presented by Partnership for Public Service, covered how to prepare for a federal interview as well as what to expect from the security clearance process. Mapping Your Military Service for a Civilian Career
During this event, which took place both online and on-site, a panel discussed how to sell military experience to employers. Attendees received advice for transitioning to an industry different from their military experience, learned more about Veteran’s Preference, and more. Federal Resume Workshops
A well-polished federal resume plays an important part in securing federal employment and can be your first chance to make a great impression on employers. These on-site federal resume workshops were hosted at the UMUC Academic Center in Largo and led by the U.S. Department of Education and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. In addition, an online session was hosted by Partnership for Public Service. In these three sessions, UMUC students and alumni learned the dos and don’ts of creating and customizing their federal resumes. Government Employer Information Session and Speed Networking
During this information session attendees heard from managers from government agencies who discussed the state of the industry and various career paths. Following the panel discussion attendees had the opportunity to participate in a speed networking session where they networked with industry experts and other UMUC students and alumni. When you hear “federal job” or “government job”, do you automatically think of Washington, D.C.? Most people do. However, the public sector has a wide range of employment opportunities throughout the country. Partnership for Public Service hosted this webinar on the variety of federal employment opportunities beyond D.C. This event took place online and on-site at the UMUC Academic Center in Largo and was hosted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Attendees received helpful tips on how to navigate USAJobs, the federal government employment website, and learned about the Pathways program.
